I know that's a really boring story but it is so infuriating and senseless! I need an answer! And a fix!!! Is it by design for some reason of which I am totally unaware or is it just a glitch? If anyone knows the answer or knows how to fix this I'd be so very grateful. By the time I went to check to see if she'd read the message it was 3pm and it still just said "delivered", which is when I phoned her assuming she hadn't got the message at all but she told me she'd read it first thing in the morning. You or your recipient might have disabled read receipts in the privacy settings. I sent a message late at night to my mum who told me she read the message at 6:30 the next morning. If the switch is green, you'll know that receipts are turned on. This is because Clear is essentially the same thing as what a Mark as Read button doesit not only gets rid of the notification, but it tells your phone (and thus their phone) that you the message is read, even if you didn’t actually open up the Messages app and fully access the conversation thread. I also found the other day that if it's been too long between the recipient reading the message and me then checking to see if/when it had been received/read then I also don't get a read receipt. Tap on the Info icon (it looks like an 'i') in the upper right hand corner. The inconsistency of it is maddening, isn't it?! What's the logic behind giving information like that for an indeterminable amount of time and then removing that information (and the possibility of having that information again?). Android: Open Messages, tap three vertical dots, and select Settings > Chat Features. I find it infuriating!!! For a while I wondered if I was mad and had imagined seeing the receipts, and then I bugged all my friends and family members with iPhones by making them double check their read receipt settings were right. What to Know iPhone: Go to Settings > Messages > toggle on Read Receipt. On the Lists page, tap All Contacts at the top to view all your saved contacts. Thank you, THANK YOU for so explicitly detailing this problem. Open the Phone app and tap the Contacts tab.
